Between La Fortuna / Arenal and JW Marriott Costa Elena (La Cruz) we normally go around Lake Arenal through Tilarán and come out at Cañas. On some days we take the Bijagua road instead, on the flank of Tenorio volcano.
Paved for most of the way - there are some unpaved stretches along the lake - and one curve after another. What costs time here is the bends, not the distance.
If we go around the lake, the stop is Café y Macadamia on the shore: fresh food and one of the best views of the drive.
