Priced per vehicle, not per person

This is the part that surprises most visitors. Our transfer and chauffeur prices are for the whole vehicle, so a couple and a family of five pay the same for the same route. Taxes and tolls are already included — the price you see is the price you pay.

Building a multi-stop trip

Most Costa Rica itineraries are three or four stops: airport, volcano, cloud forest, beach. You can book each leg separately and pay once, or take a driver for the whole stretch. A typical week looks like:

  1. Arrival — SJO → La Fortuna, 3h
  2. Volcano days — hanging bridges, hot springs, waterfall (day tours with transport included)
  3. Cross-country — La Fortuna → Monteverde, 4h, or straight to the coast
  4. Beach — Monteverde → Manuel Antonio or Guanacaste
  5. Departure — back to SJO or LIR, timed to your flight

Frequently asked questions

Is private transportation worth it in Costa Rica?
For most visitors, yes. Distances are longer than they look on the map, many roads are two-lane mountain routes, and public buses take much longer with transfers. Because private transport is priced per vehicle rather than per person, from three travellers up it often costs about the same as shared shuttles while saving hours.
Can I hire a private driver for my whole trip in Costa Rica?
Yes. Our Full Trip Chauffeur service gives you the same driver and vehicle for two or more consecutive days, at a flat daily rate: $305 per day for up to 5 guests, $375 for up to 9 and $455 for up to 12, taxes included.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Transfers and multi-day chauffeur service are priced per vehicle, so the price is the same whether one person travels or the vehicle is full. Day tours are priced per person.
Can you combine transfers and tours in one trip?
Yes. You can chain several transfers into one booking and add private day tours in La Fortuna, such as the hanging bridges, the Arenal volcano hike, Río Celeste or Caño Negro.
What kind of vehicles do you use?
Three sizes: Hyundai Staria for up to 5 passengers, Toyota Hiace for up to 9, and Maxus V90 for up to 12. All modern, air conditioned, with bottled water and free WiFi on board.
Is the company licensed for tourist transport in Costa Rica?
Yes. Travesía is insured, holds current transport permits, and has held an ICT tourism transport certificate (Instituto Costarricense de Turismo, certificate 3179-2022) since 2022.
