From the plant to your cup — and your chocolate bar

Two of Costa Rica's most beloved crops, one delicious, hands-on morning. On this working farm near La Fortuna you'll walk the plantation, pick ripe coffee cherries and cacao pods, and follow the whole journey — bean to cup, pod to bar — with plenty of tasting along the way. You even help make the chocolate. It's easy, fun, shaded and accessible, which makes it a favorite for families and all ages.

Your experience

1. Pickup from most La Fortuna hotels (a small transport fee may apply for hotels farther out).
2. Plantation walk — coffee and cacao plants, plus wildlife along the way (birds, sloths, reptiles).
3. Coffee, seed to cup — see roasting and processing, then taste freshly brewed coffee.
4. Chocolate, pod to bar — roast, grind and make chocolate by hand, and taste the result.
